Alitex greenhouse shades are recommended to optimize and control heat and light levels. They are made from commercial quality shading material which is a polyolefin-based fabric interwoven with thin aluminum strip to give a coverage of 65% shading.

The aluminum strips reflect the sun’s rays away from the greenhouse. They reduce light intensity and therefore plant scorch, whilst helping to keep temperatures reduced.

The shades are fitted to the outside of the aluminum structure to prevent the glass from heating up and to keep direct sunlight out. They are installed between the glasshouse ridge and gutter. Fitting the blinds to the inside of the greenhouse is not as effective, the heat would have already made its way through the glass and into the greenhouse.

A spring-loaded aluminum roller keeps the greenhouse shade under permanent tension. A cord-pulley system enables the shade to be operated easily at ground level. The system also prevents the shade moving in the wind.

The shades reduce light intensity and therefore plant scorch, and help keep the overall temperature down in the heat of summer. They can be mounted on the front of the roof, on the southerly elevation, and depending on your location, we can make blinds for lobbies, sides and gable ends as required.

Why are the shades on the outside?
The shades are designed for external fitting to deflect sunlight away from the greenhouse, reducing solar heat gain and effectively keeping the interior cool.

Can they be fitted on the rear roof of my greenhouse even though I have roof vents?
Yes, the shades will be positioned beneath the roof vents rather than at the ridge of the roof.

Can they be fitted to my non-Alitex greenhouse?
No, the extrusions are custom-designed to fit Alitex roofs exclusively.

What color does the rope come in?
The rope operates the spring-loaded pulley system and is available in black.
