Alitex greenhouse benching is designed to provide maximum growing space whilst remaining traditional to the Victorian style. It is manufactured in strong, durable aluminum and can be powder-coated in a color to match or complement your greenhouse.

Alitex benching is designed to provide maximum growing space whilst remaining traditional to the Victorian style. We optimize the depth of the bench according to your growing requirements and the space within the greenhouse. The height is ergonomically designed to be at waist level.

The structural composition combines strength and flexibility with elegant aesthetics. The attractive framework is manufactured using heavy cast aluminum legs and extruded aluminum sides. The deep sides allow the bench to be filled with Hydroleca; a moisture-retaining material which we provide for you, or you alternatively can use shingle, sand or decorative stone to finish the bench.

To fully utilise the space within the glasshouse, we have manufactured a strong and durable lower shelf to fit beneath the bench. A moulded aluminium extrusion supports the shelf, which is nominally 350 mm above finished floor level and 315mm wide and is finished with slats made from sustainable bamboo and recycled plastic, offering additional storage. The shelf is fitted to the maximum area possible although its size is ultimately governed by the configuration of the bench.

Materials

The framework of the bench is manufactured in aluminium, and polyester powder coated to either match or contrast with your greenhouse. The bench itself is made up of 2 levels, the top level has a galvanised corrugated sheet base, while the lower shelf is comprised of slats made from sustainable bamboo and recycled plastic, sitting within the aluminium framework.

What is Hydroleca?
Hydroleca is made by subjecting small clay granules to very high temperatures, resulting in lightweight, durable ceramic pebbles with a smooth outer surface and a honeycomb structure. This unique cellular design offers excellent protection for plants against temperature fluctuations. Hydroleca pebbles absorb and gradually release water. We incorporate them into our benching to enhance moisture retention, facilitate drainage, and provide a stable surface for pot placement.

Do I have to have Hydroleca?
We offer Hydroleca on our benching to improve moisture retention and bench drainage, while also providing a stable surface for pot placement. However, you have the option to choose an alternative such as shingle, sand, or decorative stone.

Does my benching color have to match my greenhouse color?
No, this decision can be made with your Sales Designer or Project Manager. While matching benching offers a polished appearance, opting for a contrasting color can create a striking effect. For instance, black benching in an off-white greenhouse can look fantastic!

Will water drip through my benching?
Indeed, it’s intentionally designed this way to prevent the accumulation of stagnant water beneath your Hydroleca.

The removable slats offer flexibility in your under-bench storage, accommodating tools, seed trays, and soil bags. You can choose to remove a few slats to make space for taller pots or other items as needed.
