Project Overview
What Was Your Initial Reason to Inquire with Alitex?
I was looking for a greenhouse that was both functional and beautiful, and after seeing Alitex in English Garden magazine I inquired.
What Made You Choose Alitex?
The quality was very good and no other greenhouse company could match the aesthetic and the look of an Alitex greenhouse. I did quite a bit of research and compared Alitex to other companies, traveling to see greenhouses from three different manufacturers. When you look at photos, it’s hard to tell the differences between greenhouses. However, after seeing an Alitex greenhouse up close I noticed the difference. When viewing other greenhouses I was very aware that I could see exposed nuts and bolts and the manufacturing details that should be seamless; this made other companies look amateur and I was looking for something beautiful.
Alitex glasshouses have crisp, clean aluminum lines with safety toughened glass and decorative details – all of which combined together give the look of a luxurious professionally created structure. We take great pride in our home, from which the greenhouse is visible, so the greenhouse had to match the quality of our house.
What Appealed to You About the Color You Chose?
I love the color Download Stone. It is strikingly beautiful and goes well with the gray and brown stone veneer we put on the outside of the knee-high wall.
What Was the First Thing You Put in Your Alitex?
I began taking cuttings of perennials immediately to grow in my greenhouse. I also have six fruit trees growing in there. As a Master Gardener member, a US volunteer organization trained to help the public with gardening questions and promote sustainable healthy gardens, I am also donating part of the space in my greenhouse for the organization.
What is Your Favorite Thing About Your Greenhouse?
It’s just a beautiful structure. Plus, I love the extended lobby and double doors as I approach the front. I’ve loved gardening for many years, but I had a demanding job and worked long hours. Once I retired I began spending more and more time in my garden and my interest in growing new things and passion for perennials developed. I started my research with small greenhouses but the more research I did, the more I wanted a large and beautiful greenhouse. In the end our greenhouse structure ended up 31’ x 11’.
How Has Your Greenhouse Changed the Dynamic of Your Garden?
The greenhouse is the first place I go in the morning. It’s such a lovely routine to check in on the plants and take care of them. The greenhouse is still new to me, I’m fitting it out with tables, lighting, and other greenhouse systems ahead of winter. I’m looking forward to spending a lot of time in our greenhouse this winter.
Our greenhouse has now become the first stop whenever we have guests over. On a warm summer evening we love entertaining in there, appetizers and glass in hand for our very own dinner parties.
